Spotlight Project

This is a project for disabled musicians who need to develop their talents further before joining any of the SoP supported bands. They are mainly made up of people with musical talent recommended to the organisation or individuals discovered through our on-going large-scale workshop programme.

Limelight

The aim of this project is to record and produce the work of the Sounds of Progress professional disabled musicians mainly The Superheroes, The 21st Century Band, and Blind Girl and the Crips.

Digitized

An innovative digital media arts project designed to promote positive life experiences for young people, re-shaping their world through audio and visual imagery.

Life, Stories and Dreams

The National Theatre of Scotland in conjunction with Sounds of Progress originally created this model to conduct a new and innovative performance art workshop/training programme in West Dunbartonshire and Inverclyde. Life, Stories and Dreams is a continuing multi-media artistic installation project that uses the personal testimonies of the individual participants. Life, Stories and Dreams is an innovative and exciting project that can be used as a model to link communities throughout all the local authority areas of Scotland.

Beats and Boomwhackers - An after school experience for all ages.

This is a general workshop training project which is designed to teach young people and learning disabled adults about chord structures and percussive rhythm.

Song Cycles (Chorus Chant and Colour)

The project can involve working with between 12 and 20 primary 4/5 pupils with a variety of support needs using brightly coloured bells and Boomwhacker percussion tubes.

Drumming and Percussion Workshops

By exploring the vibrations, tones and rhythms of sound, participants are encouraged to create a rhythm using drumbeats. The aim is to engage the entire group in a team exercise and have lots of fun!

Music Story Telling

Music Story telling is designed to engage the imagination of young people and expand both their concentration and communicative skills.

Specialist Music Course for Strathclyde University and Sounds of Progress

At present there is no formal provision in mainstream education for people interested in learning about the innovative techniques currently used in music training for learning disabled people. At the moment the organisation with the strongest track record in finding, developing and nurturing talented disabled individuals in Scotland is Glasgow based music/theatre production and training organisation Sounds of Progress.

Universal Professional Development Plan For Sounds of Progress 2007-2010

The plan proposes to offer access to all SOP and relevant partner projects for all 30 disabled musicians involved with the company. This will be made possible by creating two day release music education modules, run in conjunction with The RSAMD and Strathclyde University. All SoP musicians and music training staff will attend the courses as part of their continuing professional development. At the same time the SoP tutors and disabled musicians taking part will begin to deliver all the organisations education and outreach work inclusively.
